It's the old high school. Sit and stay a while.
Brutocao's tasting room sits in the heart of Hopland, in what used to be the town's high school. The grounds are open. The pace is slower than it is on the highway you just pulled off of.
You don't need a reservation, and you won't be rushed. Pour a flight of Hopland-grown estate wines, take a walk through the schoolhouse plaza, play a game of bocce, watch the afternoon roll past the front porch. That's the whole offer. Family farmed four generations, and we're easy to find.
Bocce Courts ◆ Free Play
Six Olympic-regulation courts. Twenty-five years and counting.
Brutocao has been running bocce on these courts for more than 25 years — six Olympic-regulation courts laid out where the schoolyard used to be. There's a real local league that plays here every spring and summer, and visitors are welcome to play any day the tasting room is open.
The courts are free during tasting room hours. Pour a glass, grab a set of balls from the porch, and find an open court. No pressure, no rules to learn ahead of time. You'll figure it out by the second frame.

The Schoolhouse Plaza.
The grounds wrap around the old Hopland High School. Take a walk between sips. There's more to see here than the bar.

Getting Here ◆ Highway 101
Easy on, easy off. Right on Highway 101.
From San Francisco
About two hours north on US-101. Brutocao is at the south end of Hopland, on the west side of the highway.
From the Mendocino Coast
About one hour east via Highway 128 to US-101 south. A picturesque drive through the Anderson Valley on the way.

About three hours via I-80 west, Highway 20 west, and US-101 north.

Do I need a reservation to taste at Brutocao?
Walk-ins are always welcome at our Hopland tasting room — that's how most people visit. We don't require a reservation for standard tastings. If you'd rather plan ahead, especially on a busy weekend, you can reserve a time on this page.
What are your tasting room hours?
Wednesday through Sunday, 10am–5pm. We're closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day. Hours are the same year-round otherwise.
How far is Brutocao from San Francisco?
About two hours by car — straight up Highway 101. Brutocao sits in Hopland, in southern Mendocino County, right on the west side of the highway. You won't miss it.
Are the bocce courts free to play?
Yes. The six Olympic-regulation bocce courts are free for tasting room visitors during open hours. Sets are at the front porch. No need to ask — pour a glass and play.
Is there food at the tasting room?
We don't have a kitchen on-site, but you're welcome to bring food onto the grounds and enjoy it at one of the picnic tables on the plaza. Hopland has a few good places within walking distance if you want to make an afternoon of it.
Can I bring kids or dogs?
Yes to both — well-behaved children and leashed dogs are welcome on the grounds. Bocce is a hit with kids.
Do you offer private or large-group tastings?
For groups of 10 or more, please call us at (707) 744-1664 ahead of your visit so we can set you up with the right space. Smaller groups don't need to call ahead.
Where do I park?
Free parking is available right at the schoolhouse plaza. Pull off Highway 101 at our entrance and you'll see the lot.
